The best countries in the world: 2022 Readers' Choice Awards

The readers of the international magazine Condé Nast Traveller have chosen Portugal as “the best Country in the World”.

The overall winner for the second year running, was appreciated for the friendliness of its people and although European countries have dominated the awards list this year, Portugal continues to make a name for itself as a destination of choice for travel. It was named 'Best Destination in Europe' at the regional edition of the World Travel Awards. And now, it has once again come first in the Reader's Choice Awards by Condé Nast Traveller, repeating the result of 2021.

In this vote that brought together 48 countries from around the world, Europe dominated this year's Reader's Choice Awards that brings together” the best countries in the world for travelling. In addition to Portugal, in the first 10 places of the list of the best countries to travel in 2022, the other two awarded European countries were: Greece, in sixth position, and Italy, in ninth.

It's easy to see why Portugal took first place on this list – the best hotels in Portugal are some of the most astonishing places to stay, and the glistening golden beaches sprinkled throughout the coastline are a sight for sore eyes. Lisbon's restaurant scene is also a foodie’s paradise and the Portuguese countryside boasts some incredible retreats.
